Open Basic Education

Open Basic Education (OBE)

Under its "Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)", the Government of India has been endeavouring to provide Basic Education to all. The Open Basic Education (OBE) Programme acts as an alternative educational framework equivalent to the Elementary Education Programme of the formal system, utilizing Distance Education Mode (DEM) to reach the unreached.

Target Groups (Clientele)

  • Children below 14 years of age
  • Adults above 14 years of age (Neo-literates and dropouts)

OBE Programme Levels

  • OBE Level A: Equivalent to Class I-III education standard
  • OBE Level B: Equivalent to Class IV-V education standard
  • OBE Level C: Equivalent to Class VI-VIII education standard
